…Religion and Public Life, Dec. 2003 issue. You see, what they do with their
interpretations of The Bible isn’t "cryptonoia"…How easy it is for this
editor. And what a conceited asshole, too…-rjomn32

* To J.M. of Boston: the answer is that we haven’t reviewed and will not review
Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code for the same reason we will pass on Armageddon,
the eleventh in the Left Behind series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins. For a
thorough debunking of the fatuities of The Da Vinci Code, check out Sandra
Miesel in the September issue of Crisis. The tedious business probably had to
be done, and I’m glad Crisis did it. For readers who are happily unaware of the
book, Mr. Brown’s thriller is about the real feminist Christianity in which
Jesus marries Mary Magadalene and their progeny perpetuate the true faith to
this day, despite the scheming cover-ups of the Vatican and a deeply sinister
organization called Opus Dei. But you get the idea. I see that in the UK John
Sutherland of the Guardian has a bit of fun indulging that paper’s penchant for
America bashing. "The Da Vinci Code is for cryptonoiacs–readers of a paranoid
tendency for whom nothing is what it seems. Cryptonoia is more fun. For
example, Princess Diana, as every conspiracy theorist knows, was murdered, but
by whom? Think 13. The fatal Mercedes crashed at the 13th pillar of the Pont de
l’Alma underpass, on August 31 (’13′ in reverse) 1997. Diana was in her 37th
year. Remember Friday 13, 1307, transpose a couple of digits, and all is clear.
And who was Diana named after? The moon goddess. And what does Pont de l’Alma
mean? ‘Passage of the Moon Goddess.’ Who killed her? Perhaps the Babylonian
Brotherhood, as a sacrificial offering to their lunar and solar pagan deities
(they sacrificed JFK, their sun god, on the anniversary of the papal bull
banning the Knights Templar in 1307), or the Illuminati, or, conceivably, the
Duke of Edinburgh as head of the reptilian world conspiracy. Fun, but bonkers.
Why are Americans currently devouring books like Armageddon and The Da Vinci
Code? To fill the hole where Cold War paranoia used to be. Theology,
ideology–what’s the difference? Old Europe, meanwhile, hasn’t quite caught on.
Writers like LaHaye, Jenkins, and Brown sell virtually nothing in this country.
Thank God (or our sainted Moon Goddess) for that." Touche, I guess. But tell me
more about this Princess Diana "cryptonoia." In what country, pray tell, is
that happening? Madness is madness, to be sure, but one might think that there
is at least some excuse, and venerable precedent, for being obsessed about God.

Klumageddon

The "Spin City" re-runs today and tomorrow are "Klumageddon, Parts 1 and
2", starring Our Lady Heidi Klum.

As I have explained before, the character played by Michael J. Fox in
"Spin City" is meant to symbolize me, Dr. Nicholas A. Kaffes, a.k.a.
Kansan1225.

I watch re-runs of the Heidi "Spin City" episodes religiously, because
each time I see them I discover new clues and deeper lebels of meaning.  Last
night I watched the episode where Mike donates sperm to impregnate a character
named Claudia.  This Claudia has red hair, in a style similar to that of
redhead Heidi Collins, one of CNN’s morning anchorwomen.

The family name "Collins" means "descendant of Nicholas (Colin)" and I
have given Heidi Collins the Greek name "Heidoula Nikolaou", i.e., "Little
Heidi, daughter of Nicholas Kaffes and Archangel Heidi Klum".

Meanwhile, Michael J. Fox returns to TV this month on the CBS show
"Scrubs" (Tuesdays, 9:30 pm ET).  On "Scrubs" Mike plays a doctor with
obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), a clear reference to me, Dr. Kaffes, a man
obviously and obsessively "addicted to Klum".

Wardrobe of Mass Deception?

Well, was it intentional, or wasn’t it? It matters so much, that this little
"malfunction" must be investigated at once by the FCC, and God knows who or what
else. Yet our War-drive malfunction, costing billions and many lives, has been
stonewalled for so long – but now, begrudgingly, Bush acquiesces. However: He
insists on picking the commission, it’s scope, and when it will report.

Hey: If Bush gets to pick the commission investigating him, why can’t Janet and
Justin pick the commission investigating *them*?

>You realize she probably isn’t hosting and maintaining her own site.

Her Web site was re-launched in its present form in October 2001.  Since
that time I have accessed it several times a day, just about every single day.
I can tell you the following:  whereas a computer company designed the Web site
and maintains it once in a while, the Web site is mainly monitored by Heidi’s
father, Guenther, in Germany, who releases most fan messages in the Forums,
just about every single day.  Heidi herself accesses it less frequently,
especially when she is busy, travelling, etc.  However, she is the one who
releases "controversial" fan messages in the Forums, according to her own good
judgement.  Most of my messages there are released by Heidi herself.

Heidi carries a laptop computer with her when she travels on business and
can release fan messages while away from her New York home.  She has released
messages of mine while she was in Los Angeles, Germany, London, etc.

>Heidi isn’t the webmaster, Nick. You are being kooky again.

Again, read my above statements.  The main person monitoring her Web site
is her father, but Heidi herself is the ultimate authority.

The most famous person in history to have the name "Claudius" was the
Roman Emperor, the subject of the well-known book "I, Claudius" by Robert
Graves.  The book was later made into a great TV series in the 1970s.  Emperor
Claudius was given his name because he was club-footed:

last week's conspiracy of the week: mea culpa Cardinal Jean Danielou

Well, eight days ago I skipped the entry on John Daly in Everythang Seems Under
Kontrol.  Then I forgot the topic on Sunday when I posted my message on this
newsgroup.  I remember back during Jimmy Carter’s presidency seeing a t-shirt
that said "In Graduate School, No One Can Hear You Scream."  I have come to
learn the great poetic truth in that saying.  Anyway, I contemplated the late
Cardinal a bit last week, and I intend to contemplate John Daly a bit this
week.  Take care.
